Here are the websites and on-line simulations you may use in order to carry out your research for the final poster session. Should you wish to branch out from the approved websites, please contact Dr. G to get approval. It could be really fun to do some data-mining on some other astronomical data so please be creative but don't get in over your head ;)
MAKE SURE YOUR RESEARCH QUESTION IS ANSWERABLE! You should use one of these websites/programs and be able to answer your question with NO OTHER outside sources. You can make some conjectures using your data AND outside sources, but your evidence-based conclusion must be derived only from that data source.
Stars and Star Clusters:
Solar System / Sun:
Nebulae:
- Zooniverse: Milky Way Project - citizen science project to find bubbles, star clusters, EGOs, pillars, etc. to help understand how stars (and planets) form http://www.milkywayproject.org/
- Galactic Planetary Nebula Catalog (PLNEBULAE) - query, download, and examine properties of planetary nebulae found in the Milky Way: https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/W3Browse/nebula-catalog/plnebulae.htm
- HASH Planetary Nebula Database - well-vetted set of planetary nebulae in the Milky Way, no distances (has angular sizes): http://hashpn.space/
- Google ImageSearch of "planetary nebula" or "supernova remnant" or "star-forming region" for comparison purposes (may wish to okay with Dr. G)
- The Hubble Space Telescope Image Gallery: http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/ (chose from the different categories - note that the photographic sample here is a bit biased toward the prettiest things...)
